"We had a brilliant few hours with Giovanni eating and drinking like a local. It was a treat to be ordered for by somebody who knows the best cuisine in the area. We especially loved the gnocchi and deli plate. Highly recommend booking towards the start of your holiday so you have more chance to go back to places. Thank you! "
"If you're coming to Sorrento and would like a special food tour, I encourage to consider Giovanni at WithLocals.com. His laid back style fits perfect with the chill vibe of the coast. As a native son of the city, his knowledge of all things Sorrento is vast.
Giovanni exposed us to much more than Sorrento’s food, he explained its history, took us to see a fourth-generation wood artisan, gave us tips about tours and showed us sights that are not usually seen when people visit the area. If this is your first trip to the city it is a great way to get acclimated and get the most out of your visit.
The Food: I am a bit obsessed about Italian cuisine, and the tour exposed me to more things that I did not know. At our second stop we went to Caseficio Aprede Francesco. We sampled meats and cheeses from the region. I discovered that I love Salame Napoletano. It’s a pork sausage with a slightly smoky flavor, but with an underlying sweetness. We had that with two cheeses, a Provolone del Monaco and a Foridilatte. The latter is similar to a mozzarella cheese but comes exclusively from whole cow’s milk. Caseficio produces it in-house daily. The Provolone is produced locally and has also has a savory, buttery texture that pairs great with the salame. If you have tasted provolone from other areas, you will really like this version. Topping off this stop was a wonderful biscuit known as Tarallo. They are seasoned with lard, brandy, aniseed and other flavorings and then shaped into a circle. They are dry, but oh so savory and are great with wine. So perfect!
Our next stop was a family-owned restaurant featuring gnocchi. Coincidentally, it is called Gnocchi, osteria di famiglia. We tasted the pride of Sorrento the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. They first sautéed their gnocchi in tomato sauce, Parmesan, and fresh basil, before baking it in the oven more Parmesan and mozzarella which forms a crispy crust. Yes, there was more wine.
We had three other stops: one to try a pasty called Baba, which was a rum-soaked cake shaped like a cork. I am not a sweet person, but my wife loved it and she is a pastry aficionado. Another was at a coffee shop called Gentile Café. Their Neapolitan espresso coffee was really strong with a deep, dark roast. They served their coffee with this Lemon Cake with sweet lemon drizzle that was light despite a copious amount of sugar. Again, my wife approved wholeheartedly.
I will finish this review properly, at the Limoncello shop. This liquor is ubiquitous in the region and in downtown Sorrento it is everywhere. We sampled five different kinds of Limoncello, and ate Limoncello cookies, candies, and other products. I think I got drunk in four minutes (not really).
We went over our tour time by over 30 minutes, yes Giovanni checked with us if that was ok. We were having fun listening to his families stories and experiences in his hometown. He still spends the tourist season in Sorrento and then goes back to Naples where his family lives now. He started his own tour company there, so apparently we need to go eat pizza for a day with him. Oh no, what will we do?!? Sign up for his tours – you will be really happy to meet someone with a passion for the tastes of southern Italy along Amalfi Coast and beyond."

Great way to know Sorrentine cuisine!
"Giovanni was easy to talk to, has a real passion for the food, and it was a great way to taste many of the local cuisine which was delicious! "
"This is an excellent tour to take while visiting Naples. Donatello is excellent and also gave us some good highlights of key buildings and history while we ate our way down the streets of Naples. The food choices are ideal for walking and talking and we certainly couldn’t eat it all. Plan to go back to some spots for the things we couldn’t devour since we were full. Best time was 12:30 to start the tour. Later would likely be busier and that gave us time to rest and go back out later. Thanks again!! "

Iconic Napoli Experience!
"What makes pizza different in the place where it was born? Find out in just a few hours by letting Gennaro walk you through each step, including visiting the outdoor market for some ingredients (and recommendations for where to eat later in your trip).
Due to some technical difficulties, we did our pizza making in an actual pizzeria kitchen in their off hours. In a way, it was a bonus, because we had both Gennaro and Vicenzo, a pizza master making pizzas in his family's restaurant. It was wonderfully fun, and the Pizza we made was delicious! We learned the extra details of how to properly knead the dough, how to properly measure out ingredients for the correct ratio, and the secret to making the sauce just right.
Afterward, Gennaro sent photos and video he took, as well as the instructions so we can do our best to replicate it at home, at least as well as our paltry home oven can handle. An experience we'd highly recommend for anyone who lives to cook, loves to eat, and enjoys meeting new people along the way!"

Deligjtful Day with Gennaro
"We were a group of nine ladies making a stop in Naples for the day. Gennaro was an excellent guide. He is funny, enthusiastic, accommodating, and full of interesting tidbits regarding Naples and its culinary offerings. Most of all, he is passionate about Naples! Gennaro took us to establishments we would have never found on our own and experienced many of the best culinary delights Naples has to offer. You can’t go wrong with Gennaro as your Naples guide."

I am writting a review for a Pizza Making Tour I took with my family in Naples. The host was Gennaro I want to say things like this. Gennaro is the perfect host, tour guide, friend and everythign else in the middle. I thought I was signing up for a pizza making class, and althought the pizza we made was phonminal, the tour was so much more than that. The passion that Gennaro deliveres about Naples is asthenic and contegious. He took us places and treated us to "Napoleon" treats that I woudl have other wise walked right past. I have travel the world, may times over. Visited over 60 country, and in all my travles we meet locals, enthroustic locals, locals that become friends. I knew fromt he moment that we met Gennaro, he would become a story for my family to talk about for a very long time.

When I signed up for a pizza-making class in Naples, I thought I was getting a culinary lesson. While the pizza we crafted was absolutely phenomenal, what Gennaro delivered was so much more than a cooking class—it was a masterclass in passion, culture, and the essence of Naples itself.
Gennaro is the perfect host, tour guide, friend, and everything in between. From the moment we met him, it was clear this wasn’t just another activity; this was going to be an experience. His passion for his city is both authentic and contagious. He doesn’t just share Naples with you; he immerses you in it.
He led us through streets I might have otherwise passed by, introducing us to hidden gems, local delights, and unforgettable "Neapolitan" treats that brought the city to life. Every stop, every detail, was infused with Gennaro’s boundless enthusiasm and love for his hometown.
I’ve traveled extensively—over 60 countries and countless adventures—and I’ve met many locals who left lasting impressions. But Gennaro stands apart. From the moment we met, I knew he wouldn’t just be part of this trip but a story my family would cherish and retell for years to come.
If you’re looking for more than just a pizza-making class, if you want an unforgettable journey into the heart and soul of Naples, then Gennaro is your man. This experience is one of the highlights of all my travels, and I cannot recommend it enough."
